Synapse’s Mission
We believe commercialism often ruins art, as the predominant incentive to create becomes money. Our mission has always been straightforward: To support electronic music made from pure love, joy & passion. It isn’t rare that these kinds of productions come from small and unknown names from the depths of the underground electronic music scene, made by incredibly talented artists who happen to be in lack of resources or necessary marketing skills to bring their creations to broader audiences. (Or they simply do it just as a hobby)
Priorities Matter
Music — as every other form of self expression, is at it’s prime when artists prioritize their love for the art over financial goals and fame chasing at all costs (eg. switching to trendy sounds solely because of it’s popularity). That means writing songs your heart resonates with, instead of writing songs to please the machinery of music industry. Of course, artists absolutely should get paid, but being a sellout is not something we aspire to support. (Even though everyone’s absolutely free to do things in whatever way they want to.)
The Electronic Music Scene is Huge
There are thousands of new releases each month, with more than half of them in the underground layers. As with anything else, the vast majority are not that impressive. They’re generic and dull. Given that fact, it takes a lot of time and real dedication to scrub through all the releases one by one, else you might miss a gem you’d never know existed…
Digging The Gold Up For You
Synapse does the job of all that often boring and time-consuming filtering for you. We go through tons and tons of songs on various places to find the ones that are interesting, unique, quality sounding, and then we share those pieces we think are worth the attention… Of course our choices do have a fair amount of personal bias — we can’t escape that, but we do our best to include sounds outside of the scope of personal preference. On the other hand, we never shied away from the fact that it’s OUR likings of songs… It’s a bit of a personal space / “musical blog” as well, which is still incredibly broad in terms of genres and styles — thanks to our wide spectrum of musical taste, which kept growing and expanding over more than a decade long curating activity.
Support The Artists
While we share these songs with you for free, we still heavily encourage everyone to stop for a second and think about all the precious time and effort artists put into their work. If you happen to like a song, please follow our example and go spend these two dollars to support what they do. Even if it’s only your top 5 favorite releases of the month… If we don’t support stuff we like, it will eventually cease to exist (or greatly reduce in quantity). Despite of a non-commercial approach, money is still necessary for everyone. If an artist can pay the bills by doing what he or she loves, chances of their continued contributions to the scene will substantially grow.
